Homeless Population Increases in South Dakota
A January 29, 2009 homeless count, conducted by South Dakota Housing for the Homeless Consortium (SDHHC), revealed that 1,189 homeless individuals live on the streets or in emergency shelters throughout South Dakota. This is a 15.8% increase from the September 2007 count. The count also showed an increase in the number of women (8%) and children (53%) as compared to the 2007 count. These and other key findings were recently released at the 4th Annual Housing Summit hosted by South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA).
