A January 29, 2009 homeless count, conducted by South Dakota Housing for the Homeless Consortium (SDHHC), revealed that 1,189 homeless individuals live on the streets or in emergency shelters throughout South Dakota. This is a 15.8% increase from the September 2007 count.
